Magnolia over at Southern Sass on Crime recently posted an article regarding the rumor that a serial killer may be responsible for close to forty drowning or missing college men over the past decade. Although this angle has been discussed in detail on various blogs and web forums, it remains the stuff of urban legends.

Murder has never really been a stranger to residents of Colorado Springs--a small yet transient town nestled in the foothills of the Rockies in central Colorado. On Friday, February 15, 2006, the body of 14 year old Aielah Saric-Auger was discovered along highway 16 by a passing motorist, once more raising the specter of a possible serial killer. The toll to date alleges thirty-three women and girls have gone missing or were killed during the last two decades somewhere along the 500 mile stretch of road that connects Prince George to Prince Rupert in northwestern British Columbia

As with other crimes, arson is neither new or rare. So what is it that makes a church arson special? After all, a building is a building is a building. That is, until it is a church. At which point, it becomes an iconical representation of something deeper than the material with which it is built.
