The 1970s was a tumultuous time. On the heels of the beatniks, Manson's family, and Kent state, the anti-establishment generation vowed to avoid the mistakes of its predecessors. The shadow of course, remained ever present, threatening to rip away what little innocence remained of the seemingly naive American psychewhether taking the form of Bundy's disarming looks, Jone's cyanide-laced kool aide, or the ellusive slayer who left his calling cards along the Green River. It was during this period when a teen embarked on a journey that would bring her face to face with a shadow that we, as a society, would just as soon forget. |

The Finders is another one of those new age cults whose history dates back to the late-1960s. Yes, starting cults was quite the "thang" back then. The thing is, there are a ton of them out there--more than most of you might realize. Of course, not every self-proclaimed group is necessarily a cult. |

"I thought about JonBenet a lot while I was with [redacted] especially. No, she did not look like JonBenet but she was five and little. She was so full of life like JonBenet was. She was brave like JonBenet. She immediately bonded with me and quickly told me she liked me, just like JonBenet. Her comments about me being a monster made me feel strange. Telling me she was scared of me was also really bizarre. Of course, she was acting silly the whole time she said it but there also seemed to be some kind of seriousness about it. It was as if she was saying she could detect something dark about me. She also ran her fingers across her neck and suggested that this is what I might do to her if I catch her. It was almost chilling as it reminded me of JonBenet. I had made my first little friend -- [redacted] age five and her little friends [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted]."

While some are making an entertaining hey day of the recent media Karrnival, and a person who purports to be Wendy Hutchens father appears to be speaking to... well... himself--does this man not realize that his incoherent posts only go to further sully what little is left of Ms. Hutchens already tarnished reputation?--the talking heads breathlessly ponder the whys and wheretofores of John Mark Karrs recent false confession. Yes, it does indeed appear to be a Karrnival. |

On Monday, August 21, 2006, a UK station aired the Cutting Edge: Cult Killer--a program exploring how one man's abuse in a destructive cult culminated in a murder-suicide. That man was 29 year-old Richard Peter Rodriguez and the cult was the Children of God, founded by David Brandt Berg in 1968. |

Childhood is deemed by our society to be the age of innocence--free from the adult burdens of working to meet physical and psychological needs. Optimistically, a child need not worry about whether they will have shelter, where their next meal will come from, whether or not they are loved. Or safe, for that matter. |
